It’s the second day of the quarter, and hopefully by now all you grad students have your classes picked out, but if you’re making last minute adjustments or looking for something different, please note that Rachel Shteir, one of DePaul’s 2011-12 Humanities Fellows, is teaching a special topics course in the spring on Chekhov and Beckett. The course is THE 436, Seminar: Topics in Dramatic Literature and carries A&L domain credit. It has been approved as an elective for both MAE and MAWP students. Please contact your program director if you are interested in taking this class for an elective.

Fugue, a journal of new literature edited by graduate students within the University of Idaho’s English and Creative Writing Programs, is proud to announce its 11th annual writing contest. This year they will be accepting submissions of poetry and prose (fiction and nonfiction). The deadline to submit is May 1st, 2012.
Submissions should be 3-5 poems (ten page max) or 1 essay/story (8,000-word max). Please note that the contest entry fee is $15, which covers the cost of reading ONE submission. Contestants are welcome to submit more than once, but each submission must be accompanied by a payment of the entry fee.
Complete submission instructions are available at uiweb.uidaho.edu/fugue/contest. First place winners receive $1,000, publication and a year’s subscription. Runners-up will be considered for publication and will receive a year’s subscription.

A new writing website, JewishStoryWriting.com, is looking to collaborate with DePaul. JewishStoryWriting.com is a portal for fiction writing and offers both the emerging writer and the professional author a chance to enter writing contests, develop their writing skills, and read quality writing.
One of the main goals of the site is to broaden the avenues for writers to sell their writing and find venues for them to have their work read. JewishStoryWriting.com is partnering with organizations and media sources to create gateways for aspiring writers and those with writing experience to showcase their work, and would welcome the opportunity to partner with DePaul University in creating writing contests that would benefit students.

In preparation for their upcoming Jung in the Heartland conference (Sept 2013), The C.G. Jung Society of St. Louis is inviting submissions of essays or creative non-fiction on the theme of the conference, “Healing through the Numinous,” for a writing contest. Winners will read their writing at the 2013 conference, and will receive monetary prizes of: First Place – $1000, Second Place – $500, and Third Place – $250.
