NOW HIRING: 14 East and Pueblo

(The information below has been copied from the 14 East website.)

Application deadline: April 28, 2025, at midnight

About:

14 East is an online news magazine run by DePaul students. We publish longform stories every week with a focus on community reporting, multimedia and data. We cover content ranging from local politics and sports to personal narratives and pop culture. 14 East also hosts regular community engagement events, such as our monthly Public Newsrooms.

We also house Pueblo – a bilingual platform for Latine journalists and creatives to share their poems, short stories, essays and journalistic work. Pueblo aims to be accessible to both new and experienced writers and to bring together Latine communities at DePaul.

In hiring for next academic year, we are looking to bring on several individuals who are excited and curious about telling stories in and about Chicago and expanding the work at 14 East. Although 14 East is a journalism publication, journalism or editing experience is not necessary to join staff. The only requirement is an ability to attend weekly Thursday night meetings (roughly 2 hours).

14 East is still relatively new in the world of online publications, and as such, we encourage applicants to bring their own thoughts and ideas to the position they apply to. We want to support you in whatever creative, journalistic, storytelling dream project you have!

14 East strives to build a newsroom and a community that is transparent and inclusive in our decision making and editorial processes. Our mission, content and future are driven by the communities we come from and look to serve. We encourage candidates of all backgrounds to apply, including those from historically underserved communities in the Chicago area, Black and Brown communities, immigrant communities, the LGBTQ+ community, and others. We seek to support those interested in writing, reporting or creating content whose experiences thus far have been through nontraditional educational channels.

Position Descriptions:

All positions require weekly Thursday night meeting attendance. *Some positions include hourly payment, dependent on 14 East’s 2025-26 Budget. Feel free to inquire further about a specific position*

Positions begin meeting regularly in Fall 2025. Staff members have the option to be involved during summer bi-weekly publishing, but it is not required. If hired, all new staffers will be expected to attend a New Staff Orientation at the end of May/beginning of June (date TBD).
