Train to be a certified dyslexia tutor through the Children’s Dyslexia Center! The program is enrolling new students with a deadline of Jan. 31, 2020 and encourages any DePaul students who might be interested to apply.
NOTE: The Center will extend their deadline for DePaul students.
Applicants need to have an undergraduate degree or be graduating this spring. For those who want to get into teaching but not become a traditional classroom teacher, this is a great option.
The Center Director for Children’s Dyslexia Center in the Chicago area is accepting applications for next year’s class which will start in March 2020. Children’s Dyslexia Centers are accredited by IMSLEC and IDA and individuals are trained to be certified in Orton Gillingham.
Since Children’s Dyslexia Center is accredited by IMSLEC, upon completion an individual is qualified to take the national certification exam by ALTA without taking any other classes. Upon completion of this exam an individual would become nationally certified. Families do not pay anything for tutoring, and tutors do not pay anything for training. The center is a Scottish Rite Masonic Charity.
The course consists of 70 hours of lecture and 100 hours of supervised practicum, and it takes about one year to complete the practicum. This course is taught at the graduate level. The supervised practicum will start in June. The 100 hours supervised practicum will start in the summer (June 22nd – July 30th).
Completed applications need to be received by January 31, 2020 to be considered for the 2020’s training class. Please email your application to pm.conroy@sbcglobal.net.
