Transcribathon

Join in a worldwide effort to transcribe a digitized 17th century manuscript by coming to the Scholars Lab, room 103, in the John T. Richardson Library on Thursday, October 25th from 1:00-5:00pm. The Transcribathon is being put on by the Early Modern Poetry Online Project or EMPOP. DePaul University will be joining the National University of Ireland Galway, Virginia Commonwealth University, Northern Virginia Community College, and The Folger Shakespeare Library in transcribing a miscellany from the Folger that contains guides on fishing, instructions on making fireworks, medicinal recipes, and poetry by Petrarch, Ben Jonson, and William Shakespeare. The crowd-sourced transcriptions will expand access to the manuscript both for the public and for researchers by making it discoverable through keyword searching. All you need to do is type what you see!

Those interested in trying their hand, are encouraged to drop in anytime between 1 and 5 p.m.  No experience is required! The English faculty and EMPOP member, Megan Heffernan, and rare books librarian, Nora Gabor, will be on hand to assist participants and answer questions. Attendees can bring their own laptops or use the laptops provided in the classroom. Candy brain fuel will be available to keep everyone going strong! Any questions can be sent to Nora Gabor at ngabor@depaul.edu. We hope to see you there!
