Freelancing: The Nuts and Bolts
Chicago Women in Publishing’s first educational event of the year will feature a highly requested topic: Freelancing. Learn more about how to get started, how to find work, what to charge, taxes, self-promotion, and establishing your professional website. Plan to join CWIP on Wednesday, November 16 for Freelancing: The Nuts and Bolts to take your freelancing career to the next level.
The event will be led by a panel of five industry professionals:
- Jeff Fleisher, published author and freelancing extraordinaire, will tackle difficult start-up questions including where to find clients, how much to charge, and maintaining workflow.
- Paula Krapf, social media consultant and strategist, will give pointers for how to make yourself visible on social media sites.
- Helena Swyter, licensed CPA and owner of SweeterCPA, will demystify the tax aspects of freelancing.
- Brian Rodriguez, Javascript Engineer at Red Frog Events and founder of All Things Web Tech, will discuss options for establishing your own professional website.
- Orfie Krejberg, Senior Account Manager and Recruiter at Paladin, will share insights on how staffing companies place freelancers into direct hire positions.

The evening will begin with networking at 5:30 p.m. in the Library, continue with the main presentation at 6:30 p.m., and conclude with a session for panelist questions in individual groups.
