The Norton Girault Literary Prize
Inaugural 2012 Competition is now open
The Norton Girault Literary Prize will be offered in 2012 for FICTION (annual prize will alternate among Fiction, Poetry, and Nonfiction genres)– one prize will go to a single short story up to 25 pages (double-spaced). The winning story will receive $1,000 and publication in Barely South Review. One honorable mention will also be selected for publication.
The Norton Girault Literary Prize is named after Norton Girault (learn about him here and here).
The judge for the 2012 Norton Girault Literary Prize in Fiction is Cristina García, an award-winning novelist, and the author of five novels, two works for young readers, and a collection of poetry, as well as an editor of two anthologies. Her newest work, Dreams of Significant Girls, is a young adult novel. García’s work has been nominated for a National Book Award and translated into fourteen languages. She is the recipient of a Guggenheim Fellowship, a Whiting Writers’ Award, a Hodder Fellowship at Princeton University, and an NEA grant, among others.

Chicago based Anobium Books invites everyone to join the release party for Volume Two of the Anobium Literary Journal. Anobium: Volume 3 is going to be a special creature. While Anobium: Volume 1 and Volume 2 were open to all submissions, regardless of theme, we’re trying a different approach for Volume 3, which will be released in August 2012.
The offical title will be Anobium: Volume 3 – Noospheria. In this special issue, we will be exploring and testing the limits, boundaries, and assumptions of the ‘noosphere,’ or domain of human knowledge. The term was originally espoused by Russian scientist Vladimir Vernadsky, who used it to describe and explain the ‘space’ is created when human minds interact with one another. While this idea is often integrated with the more idealistic concepts of enlightenment or evolutionary consciouness, in Volume 3, our concerns will be with the suppositions, anomalies, and inconsistencies lingering in the shadows of this noospheric structure.
We are going to want all types of writing, because big ideas need big thinkers. Go here to find out all of the details, and warm up your Magnetic Tape Selectric Typewriter or other type of Word Processor, and get ready to release the dogs.
